Licor
43® (Cuarenta y Tres)
LICOR 43
is a fascinating product with an equally fascinating heritage. Better
known as CUARENTA Y TRES
in its homeland of Spain, it is conjectured that its origin dates
back to ancient times and the seafaring Phoenicians. The earliest
version of the present day liqueur, however, can be traced back
to the 16th century, with the mastering of distillation and the
discovery of vanilla in Mexico by the Spanish Conquistadors.
Today the Diego Zamora Company makes Licor
43 in Cartegena, Spain. This delectable liqueur is made from a base
of neutral grain spirits with an infusion of berries, citrus fruit
and fragrant herbs. The 43 in the liqueurs name
refers to the number of ingredients used in its proprietary recipe.
It is bottled at 62 proof.
Licor 43 is wildly popular in Spain and
can be found in over 60 countries around the world. The liqueur
has a lustrous golden hue with brilliant amber highlights and a
richly textured, medium-weight body. It is endowed with a generous
bouquet of butterscotch, citrus and vanilla. Licor 43 presents a
sweet, lively palate of citrus, herbs and vanilla that persist well
into the warm and flavorful finish.
Savory Licor 43 is a versatile player behind
the bar. The liqueur adds a wonderful vanilla and light citrus essence
to mixed drinks.
