Dubonnet®
Rouge
Dubonnet is the best-selling aperitif in
America. Best described as a sweetened and fortified wine, its original
calling was as an aperitif wine, one typically consumed before dinner
to awaken and stimulate the appetite. While still popular as an
aperitif, the brand has also become an ingredient in many contemporary
cocktails.
Considered the grand dame of aperitifs,
Dubonnet was created by Frenchman Joseph Dubonnet in 1846 as a restorative
elixir for the French Foreign Legion on their missions to Africa
and Asia. The brands two versions are still made according
to the same secret recipes.
Light and refreshing, DUBONNET
ROUGE is produced on a base of premium
red wine that is infused with a proprietary blend of herbs, spices,
peels and quinine. The wine is fortified with grape spirits to an
elevated strength of 19% alcohol by volume. The famed aperitif is
characteristically aromatic with a delicate body and a palate of
tangy fruit. The finish is long and vaguely effervescent.
DUBONNET BLONDE
is crafted on a base of white wine, fortified with grape spirits
and infused with botanicals. It is drier than its red wine counterpart.
While both versions are a genuine pleasure
to sip neat or over ice, they are enormously delicious when featured
in signature cocktails.
