Disaronno®
Originale
Legend has it that DISARONNO
ORIGINALE was created in Saronno,
Italy in 1525. The recipe for the original amaretto was passed through
the creators family for generations until it was acquired
in 1817 by Carlo Dominico Reina, who began selling the liqueur in
his apothecary. After World War I one of Reinas descendents
began to market the liqueur outside of Saronno.
In 1939, the century-old firm of Illva Saronno
began producing the famous liqueur under the name Amaretto di Saronno.
Its proprietary recipe is still made with a base of premium Italian
grape spirits, which is patiently steeped with 17 herbs and
fruits, including apricot kernel oil. Once fully infused with flavor,
the liqueur is sweetened with caramelized sugar and bottled
at 56 proof.
Disaronno Originale is a grand dame of liqueurs;
one often imitated, yet never equaled. It has a burnished, copper
hue and medium-weight, satiny smooth body. The generous bouquet
is laced with the aromas of marzipan and citrus zest. Its palate
rapidly fills the mouth with the marvelous, semisweet flavors of
almonds, oranges and vanilla. The finish is long and eminently flavorful.
Disaronno Originale is altogether indispensable
behind the bar,
as evidenced by the exceptionally large numbers of drinks in
which it is featured. Accept no substitute.
